Mitch Richmond

Mitch Richmond

 

Mitch Richmond started college at Moberly Area Community College but played for Kansas State University from 1986-88. He was second-team All-American in 1988. Richmond was the 5th overall pick of the 1988 NBA Draft, chosen by the Golden State Warriors. Richmond played in the NBA for 14 years, playing with the Warriors through 1991, and then was with the Sacramento Kings from 1991-98. 


He was with the Washington Wizards from 1998-2001 and finished his career with a single season with the Los Angeles Lakers. In his NBA career, Richmond averaged 21.0 ppg, and finished with 20,497 points, and was considered one of the league’s best pure shooters. He was a six-time NBA All-Star, a five-time All-NBA Team member and was NBA Rookie of the Year for the 1988/89 season. Richmond's #2 was retired by the Sacramento Kings.


Internationally Richmond won a gold medal at the 1996 Olympics and a bronze medal at the 1988 Olympics. He also won a silver medal at the 1987 Universiade. In 2014, Richmond was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
